Following World War 1 lived in a cottage in the castle grounds at Berkhamsted and her husband delivered the mail on foot in Little Gaddesden. The mail was brought to the village by pony cart. At that time her husband was known as Johnny. Stephen J Oakins (Steve) delivered in Dagnall and Wards Hurst Farm.
Buried with Edward at Little Gaddesden.
Mary married Edward John GARRETT, son of John GARRETT and Hannah ADAMS, on 8 Dec 1894 in Ivinghoe, BKM. (Edward John GARRETT was born Q3 1867 in Ringshall, BKM, christened in Oct 1867 in Little Gaddesden, HRT, died on 14 Feb 1954 and was buried in Little Gaddesden, HRT.)
